universities

I am experienced working with universities in public engagement as both an employee in my previous role as Public Engagement Officer for global arts and science campaign Fun Palaces at the University of Bristol, and as an artist working with researchers to co-create projects with communities.

This has included working as one of seven artist facilitators on international public engagement project Sustainable Futures Academy by the University of Cambridge and Berlin's Natural History Museum, bringing researchers and young people together to explore sustainability through visual projects - mine called Our Future Islands using illustrative and ArcGIS map-making. I curated and designed an exhibition exploring knowledge exchange for FUTURES in Bristol in 2018; co-created a 'learning quilt' with South Asian older women for University of Bristol anthropologists; used creative engagement techniques to consult the public on urban planning and public health for UWE's Our City Our Health researchers amongst others.

I have also undertaken illustration and design projects with universities, having worked on the branding for FUTURES: European Researchers Night in 2019 and 2020; rebranded the University of Bristol's Public Engagement Team visual identity and designed an animated GIF and illustration series on declining fertility for Cambridge University's Creative Encounters programme for the Populations Past team (see my illustration portfolio here).

Alongside this I am a visiting lecturer at Bath Spa University and UWE, where I teach yearly seminars on creative community engagement with BA Fine Art and Architecture students.
