Love Letter to Radstock
Creativity Works, an arts organisation promoting creativity to improve mental health and wellbeing in the South West of England, commissioned me to facilitate a new public art project for the town of Radstock. I proposed a collective letter-writing project, culminating in a public art trail and map:
Love Letter to Radstock is all about celebrating local love for Radstock through letter writing and drawing. Artist Ellie Shipman will be out and about in February 2020 inviting people to write and illustrate their own love letters to the town and ‘post’ them at a special post box in the Library. Ten sentences will be chosen by local groups to be printed on metal and installed around the town as a permanent Love Letter Trail. A map will be made so everyone can explore the trail and discover the collective Love Letter to Radstock!
Throughout February I will be collecting residents letters and hosting writing and drawing workshops with community groups across the town. These photos show my initial wanderings and observations in the town, from finding the Chair's chair in the library, the famous wheel and mining heritage represented in planters throughout the town centre to discovering a crocheted Venus of Willendorf in the local art gallery at RadCo shopping centre! Curiouser and curiouser...
