The Timecapsule Project

participatory projects

The Timecapsule Project ran from Jan - March 2017, creatively exploring the past, present and future with older people at Age UK Stones End Day Centre and Year 7 students from Notre Dame Secondary School. The project was commissioned and supported by Pool Reinsurance.

The project consisted of creative workshops using drawing, watercolour and ink painting, mobile making and story sharing to discuss various themes such as: food, music, fashion and significant objects through time. The creative outcomes made by the participants were digitally traced and informed a patterned segment of a quilt design for the final permanent public artwork – an aluminium mural installed in the centre’s garden.

The process was documented on a project blog, designed and distributed as a newspaper (which won Newspaper of the Month by Newspaper Club) and through a podcast of audio recordings taken during the workshops and an overview of the project process.
